Parallel Thinning with Two-
نویسنده
چکیده
Two parallel thinning algorithms are presented and evaluated in this article. The two algorithms use two-subiteration approaches: (1) alternatively deleting north and east and then south and west bounda y pixels and (2) alternately applying a thinning operator to one of two subfields. image connectivities are proven to be preserved and the algorithms’ speed and medial curve thinness are compared to other two-subiteration approaches and a fully parallel approach. Both approaches produce very thin medial curves and the second achieves the fastest overall parallel thinning.

A two-subcycle thinning algorithm and its parallel implementation on SIMD machines
A new parallel thinning algorithm with two subcycles is proposed and compared with other parallel thinning algorithms in terms of 8-connectedness degree, erosion, stability under pattern rotation, and boundary noise sensitivity. Computational issues are also reported based on the implementation of the thinning algorithm on the SIMD machines CM-200 and MasPar MPP-12000.
متن کاملAn Improved order independent parallel thinning algorithm for Image thinning
This paper addresses an order-independent parallel thinning algorithm. This algorithm is a two-pass, iterative and parallel processing. In pass-1 the entire image is thinned uniformly to two-pixel thick. In pass-2 the two-pixel thick image is further thinned to one pixel thick image without leaving any two pixels in the resultant image. The thinning process is based on weight-values. The weight...
متن کاملImproved Low Complexity Fully Parallel Thinning Algorithm
A fully parallel iterative thinning algorithm called MB2 is presented. It favourably competes with the best known algorithms regarding homotopy, mediality; thickness, rotation invariance and noise immunity, while featuring a speed improvement by a factor two or more owing to a smaller number of operations to perform. MB2 is grounded on a simple physics-based thinning principle that conveys both...
متن کاملSurface Thinning in 3D Cubical Complexes
We introduce a parallel thinning algorithm with directional substeps based on the collapse operation, which is guaranteed to preserve topology and to provide a thin result. Then, we propose two variants of a surface-preserving thinning scheme, based on this parallel directional thinning algorithm. Finally, we propose a methodology to produce filtered surface skeletons, based on the above thinni...
متن کاملEfficient Grayscale Thinning via Parallel Processing
Grayscale thinning is a fundamental image processing/computer vision operation, but unfortunately a rather slow process. This paper examines the theoretical foundations of grayscale thinning as an extension of binary mathematical morphology, and presents a parallel processing approach that speeds up processing time by almost two orders of magnitude on parallel hardware.
